Sunday 6-29-08

We went to TLC again today; preaching great, music great, I must get use to the very informal dress. I know clothes do not make one holy.

Wilma is sleeping better & Tank & I sure like her in the bed with us.

Wilma & I had a quesidilla burger at Applebees; we split it & itwas good. We are on the Wal-Mart lot so as to be on line, I will buy a few thing here also.
6-27-08
I do not know where to start. Lets start with some Navajo Indian students coming over to volunteer here at Cedar Breaks. There were 21 that showed up. They had planned to have them do some fence work, but with that number I was asked if I could use some in the campground. Of course I said yes. We have some sites that needed some grass & weeds removed. They were asked who wanted to do what, it went about 50/50 so that was good. They worked quite good; they were from the local college. I talked to one young man who was working very hard; he did about twice the others did. He is working on his masters in criminology & forensic science a real live CSI. He also plays football. I thank he is going to be somebody someday.
The most exciting news of the week is WILMA WALKED ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CAMPGROUND; she did use her walker. She is doing very well and is going to try to sleep in the bed tonight instead of on the couch.

Wilma doing her second lap; in two days

These gets much larger; will take a picture then also

Note the small flowers; there are many here

Wilma is doing great. Guess what the low last night was 52 and the hi today was 74.
We are going to Cedar City in the morning to get her staples out (she has 25) hope the Dr. is fast or we will be there a long time. I know I bet a nurse does it.
I am going to show you some of the city. They have some wide streets and the Post Office looks new. They have an Old Town, an Iron Museum, and of course a Super Center, it is bigger than either one in San Angelo, it is also laid out strange. Take a look at the Dr. offices. All the medical building are in one part of town even the animal hospital.
The weather has been great.

This is the Doctors' offices Wilma's Doctors' office is on the left (shot 1) on the left

6-21-08
Boy I am getting late writing this up. Wilma is doing fine now; she is over the stomach virus she caught in rehab and now can eat anything she wants. Tank is great & I am fine; I am going to take my Saturday night bath in a few minutes.
I have a picture of Wilma's Rock for you to see; they may make a shrine out of it. You know Lincoln slept here; well why not Wilma fell here.
Tank is turning out to be quite an ambassador; all the kids love him from 3 to 78 years of age. One 12 year old girl had to stop by the trailer & say bye to Tank as they left; he was on the porch with Wilma and she came up & petted him & hugged his neck. The girl's dad parked the car and he and mom got out with her for the good bye. You should have seen Tank, the big ham just ate it up.
We are going to a new Church Sunday called TLC. A nurse from the hospital invited us to come; I do not know much about it as yet. Her husband plays in the band.
I am going to try & post some pictures of flowers. Would you believe we have wild celery growing up here. I will try & get a picture of it when it blooms.
From Wilma:
I go to the doctor Tuesday. He will x-ray my leg and tell me how much weight I can put on it. I am getting tired of the crutches. Weldon also gets tired of pushing my wheelchair. I really don't get out much in it as the road is not very smooth. I've only been around the park one time in the wheelchair.

A Great Day 6-18-08

6-18-08
Today is a great day, I got up & the sun was shinning the birds were singing the flowers look great, & best of all WILMA was home. She was having a bout of diaherira, she got in the rehab center. She is much better this PM after I helped her today. Wilma & I had to make a run into Cedar City, they change her coumadin dosage. I than worked this PM. We had a nice meeting with the other two camp host, the camp overseer, and Paul (he is the park supt.). It went well, took place in our trailer due in part to Wilma's condition.
I am going to try to take some more pictures of the wonderful flowers. I think they are smaller than other wildflowers I have seen, and boy are they growing. They have a wildflower fiesta every year. I am looking forward to it. The people here say it is a very big event. It will be around July 1, I am also going to post a picture of Wilma's rock (it not as big as she thought).

Surprise Surprise

6-12-08
We (me & Tank) had a great visit with Wilma today, she is coming home Tuesday the 17. They would let Tank go in to Wilma's room he got up in her bed & made himself at home. Wilma tried getting in & out of the truck & she can do it just fine (anyone that knows Wilma new she could).
When Tank & I got home we found Jim ( one of the maintenance men had made a 4X4 porch with steps that have 4 in risers, the rails are not on yet but it is ready for them. I can never make anyone understand how they have been to these two (three) Texan. They can not do enough. The workmanship is as good as any you will find anywhere, if I had made it, you could have told. I was told Jim was cabinet maker, he is. Jim steped forward & said we can do what is needed.
Guess what I found in Cedar City today a BBQ place that has as good of catfish as you will find anyplace. That's what I said Andy anyplace. He gave me 4 ribs & they were good, the meat fell of the bone, but it had a sweet thick sauce, & I like thin & a little heat.
In Cedar City you do not find a mail box on every street, and you can not get in the post office after hours, or I could not find the way in, and I went to the main door.
Remember if life was a book and you did not travel you would only read one page.
Remember also I an old so spelling & wording do not count.

Getting Ready

6-13-08
Our low was 37 & our hi was 66, you know that was not bad. What was yours?
We finish Wilma's porch & stairs, will show you a picture. She will get out of the rehab Tuesday. Talked to Wilma today & she is ready to join me & Tank, I am sure she misses us as much as we miss her.
Well we are ready we open the campground in as few hours. A CG opening is not like a Wal Mart opening there will not be people outside waiting to get in, but we will have campers here Saturday night There are still some last minute things to do, but the big things are done (the restroom is ready).
The other two camp host came in today. A nice couple that have been full timers, for three years. They are retired Army & Air Force. Having been here last year they will be able to help brake me & Wilma in.
We have a mouse for the first time that I know of, I set three traps today. I saw him in a bay & found his nest I removed the nest but he was to fast. Looks like he has been inside, but I am not sure. If he has Tank is falling down on his job.

Low 44 hi 69
Talked to Wilma her roommate has left she now has a room of her own. She was up getting ready to leave on Tuesday. She was feeling good I am always glad to her that.
Well open day is almost over it has been a nice day. I did catch two mice, I wish I new if that was all, they did not look like the one I saw. I worked on making the trailer more mouse proof. I believe I have sign of them up in the top (where you live) of the trailer also not just in the bays. I hope not , my neighbor said they do not like the smell of peppermint , so I will get some. I may have to set traps in the top & I will more than likely catch Tank.

Wilma is home in two days.
Laura Lee & I spent Father's Day together here at the CG, she brought lunch & was it GOOD. We then did some work around put site. Talked then worked then talked again she went home around 5:00.
Ted & I moved a fire pit over to our site from one that is going to be turned into parking. The thing had two big pieces of concrete attached to it. We tried to dig a big enough hole for it but hid a tree root, then we tried to busted it with a sledge hammer, & then Matt came along and ask why we did not just cut it off. Wish he had came over earlier.
The program tonight was on Bats it was good.

Good News 6-11-08

6-11-08
Good news Wilma can come home as soon as we get the steps ready for her. More good news we have moved back to our regular site, we can start on Wilma's steps. More good news we will open the CG Saturday.
Tank & I are going in to see Wilma Thursday, which is tomorrow, they have to find a way Wilma can get in & out of the pickup.
The grass & wildflowers are growing, like you would not believe, as soon as the snow is gone there they are. The wildflowers are so pretty I will take pictures of some of them & post them, I wish you could be here to see them. I saw five mule deer today, as yet have not seen any elk. This hi country is coming alive.
The people are so nice that we have had a chance to come in contact with. We are already a part of what is going on. They are going to give a party for Wilma when she gets out, and comes home. It is so difference than being on vacation, you become a part of the group. People are difference toward you, they care, you are more than a dollar.
In reading other people blogs one of the things I keep hearing over and over was; it was the people you meet that made what you were doing worth something. Wilma & I got to meet a young lady in the hospital that was just so cheerful, she gave us her phone number & wants us to try her Church it is a TLC. I did not know there was a group of TLC churches, but says there is it sounds somewhat like ours. I bet there pastor is not as good as our MASTER PASTOR.

6-09-08 Water leak found

6-09-08
Good news, Wilma may get to come home soon. Maybe this week. As I am sure you already guess she is much better. A few thing to work out; get the trailer back where it belongs, get support for her going in and out, get a wheel chair & walker & crutches just a few thing to work out, BUT SHE MAY GET TO COME HOME SOON like this week. When I talked to Wilma to night she was fix en to eat a Sunday. She will not get that here, but we (Tank & I ) will give her lots of love.
They have found the water leak, & may have it fixed. The place where it came to the top of the ground was ten feet from the leak plus it was four feet deep. Took a long time & a lot of holes to find it, we even had a locater.
The CG open on Saturday (I am so glad) the other host is due in on the 16. I may be busy. I have all but one fire grate cleaned out, will get it in the AM.

Letter from Dad & 6-08-08

Sorry, you have me again. Wilma & I talked about me leaving the comp. & the fact it would be left in the room with no one there & no way to lock it up. Knowing a little about what goes on in some places we though it best for me to keep it, she also though I might use it more than her. I will be down twice a week anyway & can bring it so we can et on line.
Wilma is doing better, when I got there she was down, but I believe she was up when I left (if nor she put on a good show). She had receive a pain pill and was a little sick at her stomach. She is getting around better, we went to lunch (next time we will have it in her room). We talked about me building some stairs for her to used in getting in & out of the trailer. I will start on them as soon as I can get back in our regular site (I had to move because of a water leak). We both enjoyed my visit very much. Next time I am going to carry Tank (they miss each other).
Tank was glad to see me when I got home. There was a motor home in the CG when I got here so Tank & I went & knocked on their door. Robin (one of the Rangers had sent them here as they were sick) I told then OK but no services. I did give then a envelope to donate.
Dear Kids,
Being of the older set, I want to say something. I think I have the right. It seems as we get older some our kids thank we should stop living & set at home and rot. We are not dead, we still have a life to live, we still have dreams. Thing will happen we will get hurt, but that is part of life. Do you not know that when you left home we wanted to fix everything, make everything right for you; we still wanted to be there when you were sick, needed anything. That could not be, you had a life to live, & not to let you live it would be wrong. Wilma & I turn 67 this year, the time will come when we can not do anything, but stay at home, (I hope that time is a long away off). We still have a life to live it is a change, in that it is not what we used to do. We love each other very much, our love is much stronger than it was yesterday, & will be stronger tomorrow. I hope I never have to live without Wilma. I also hope you, our loving kids will not plant us before we die. Thank you for letting me say this as I thank it needed to be said, not only for my kids but for a lot of well meaning, loving, kids of older people, we still have a life to live. We will need your help soon enough, and I know you will be there.
Love Dad

Wilma to do the Blog

6-06-08
Talked to Wilma today& she is always doing better. Wilma wants me to leave the comp. With her for a few days, I am going to tell her she has to write in the blog every day.
We may be getting more rain (snow), the hi was 57 & the low 37. The wind has really been blowing three trees where blown down in the CG.
When I checked the wood box it was almost empty. Most of the day I was carrying wood for the visitor center. I did clean out a couple of fire rings.
I took some pictures today of rocks which are formed in layers, when a volcano spits our ash it lands and forms the layers (over the years).
Remember spelling & wording does not count Now when Wilma does the blog it does
6-05-08
First thing first, Wilma new phone number is 435-865-3406 this number is to her bedside phone. We (Tank & I, Tank waited in the pickup) went to see her today & she was doing better than they though she would be doing at this point. She does have a roommate a nice lady. You will not bother her when you call.
Last night was a low of 24 with hi winds & six inches of snow. Around 4:30 this morning we lost power, did not know it till I woke up to go get something to drink. The temp in the trailer had dropped to around 50. I did the smart thing & went back to bed I got up around 7:00 turned the gen set on to give us power & made sure someone called the power co. We had power back on around 4:30 PM. Tank & I though it was a good day to go see Wilma.
Driving to Cedar City was a winter wonder land, and yes I did not carry my camera. When we got back to the CG we found two large trees down.

Wilma is getting better, they are talking about moving her to the Re-hab center on Thursday. Of course she will have a new phone number, (to reach her now call 435-686-5104) she would be glad to her from you. I will post her new number. I will try to post it sooner than later.
Here at the CG, (I did not go down the mountain today) I moved the trailer so we could look for the water leak. I moved to a site close enough to be able to plug into elec. Tank helped me move.
Around 3:00 PM today as I was going to get wood it started to snow, before I could get the wood & get back I could hardly see. I called Wilma for the second time she said it was raining in Cedar City. She wanted some stuff sent down by Matt. She had ask him, (when he called to see how she was doing) to bring them., as I was not going down till Thursday.
I have put two lights under the trailer to keep the porcupine from going under it, the only ones I have now are trouble lights,(I think I need flood) do you think they will work? Any thoughts? Porcupines can do a lot of damage & we cannot kill them. Porcupines do not fear anything.
Remember wording & spelling do not count.

Our Restroom

The Fall

6-03-08
Yes we have missed 02 well we had a problem. Wilma & I were cleaning out a fire grate when she backed up & trip over a small rock (could happen to anyone). Wilma landed on a large rock & she heard a crack, as most of you know Wilma does not show pain nor does she quite before the job is done.
I knew something was wrong when she said don't move me, go for help, I broke something. I ask her if she wanted to be moved she said NO! GO GET HELP. I knew I had better go (we do not have our radio as yet). I went to the Visitor Center. I told them we needed help, so they called for help. The EMT s were there in short order. We have one here & she called for more help. I believe we ended up with eight here. After making her ready she was loaded in an ambulance we went to the hospital.
They made X-Rays and found she had a broken leg bone (left) close to the hip. Wilma was in surgery by 3:00 it took an hour & a half. Laura Lee came up and set with me as we waited for Wilma, she then stayed for a while after Wilma returned to the room.
Today Wilma walked at 9:00 this AM & again at 2:00 this PM. They said she will walk two times a day and by Thursday or Friday she will go to the Rehab clinic. Wilma will stay in this clinic until she can go up stairs. It could have been a lot worse. I thank God it is not, and Wilma & I are believe she will be home soon.
Tank & I miss her very much. You know you become one, & one half on me is missing right now. I will work in the campground and go see her when I cane. It will be often as the people have been very nice. One said I could come and stay with him & his family, one said they would keep Tank. What I am going to do is stay here with Tank, I have a number where I can call Wilma once or twice a day, & I will go to see her often. Hay she can watch TV.
The spelling & wording is not Wilma fault & you know I do not know any better. I am old.
PS
Hay I got to tell you this while it is new. A few night ago Wilma & I were in bed & it sounded like something was trying to eat the trailer (that is not good). I turned on some lights & it stopped. Tonight I heard it again. Tank barked a little, & I got up & turned on the lights. I got brave & went outside with a flashlight, upon shinning it under the trailer I saw a porcupine a big white one. I found out quick it was not afraid of me, but I do not think it liked the lights. After throwing rocks at it & shinning a light in it eyes it left, I hope. We cannot kill anything in the NM, but we can bug it.

A nice Sunday (before the fall)

6-1-08
It is Sunday, we went into Cedar City & went to a small AG church. The name is Westview Christian Center the pastor is Gerald Van Iwaarden. It was a good message about lowering the man through the roof for his healing. He used visuals and made it very interesting. There was around forty people in attendance. They sang using DVDs (they had words & music on the wall) with no one to lead, the pastor did all the preliminaries.
After church we went to Wal-Mart to get on line and also do a small amount of shopping. Wilma called some of her sister & answer her text message. We then ate a McDonald, and was able to find a stool we had been looking for.
Coming back to the CG we did some work on the trailer
Update on Wilma she is doing great, very little pain, NO LIMP.

5-30-08

5-29-08 & 5-30-08
On the 29th we thought Laura was coming over to see us & our camp. Wilma & I hooked up the sewer line & covered the wheels, washed the windows (they needed it from the trip up & the snow). We still need to wash the trailer & our pickup is a mess, but why clean it till some of the mud has dried up. We also clean up the inside of the trailer.
When Laura had not made it by 3:30 we went into town (remember we have no phone or Internet here). When we were able to call she had had to work, she is coming Friday. We had heard of an Internet cafe & coffee house, so we tried it. From the reading material I believe they are sponsored by a church, tho when I asked the girl working there she did know who sponsored them. They did not have enough business to stay open. We bought a cup of coffee & one of hot tea and they were good. We used our air card & it was slow, so after about three hours we tried their wi-fi & it had a load of ads on it. So we went to Wal-Mart got on with strong signal I worked on the blog while Wilma shopped.
We later bought a McDonald & headed home getting here at 10:30.
5-30-08
Did you know that God is good. Let me tell you something. Wilma lost the stone out of her wedding ring at the ranch around 4-12-08 or 1500 miles ago. This morning she found it in the trailer, it was in part of the screen door frame. She yelled Weldon come here. I thought something was wrong, but every thing was right. Wilma had never given up hope, I had (that diamond was small & had to see). She never lost faith. She found it, she even has the setting with her.
Laura made it up today and we had a nice visit we took her around the monument & she help us being up some wood. We then had lunch & she left around 3:00.
We were about to do some work on the trailer ( put on new pigtails on the butane bottles). Two of the men that work here can to turn our the water on, we have been looking forward to that for some time. I help them some (mostly looked). After they had been gone for some time Wilma saw some water under the trailer & we heard it running in the restroom. After calling for help we were able to get it turned off & the campground lines drained.

5-31-08

5-31-08
We are going to try to open the campground in a week, that is what the superintendent said. So we worked on getting things ready today. We took three picnic tables & made two good ones. I never new what damage snow could do. They will sometimes get ten feet of snow on some of the tables.
They turned the water on (for which we were glad) and after about two hours we found water under the trailer. Wilma and I then did some investigation and found there was water dripping in the restrooms. We called for help and I learn were the main cutoff was. I feel I need to know this, in case something happens during the nite, after we open.
We again have no water, but we have a full tank so we are OK. Monday the man who put in the system will be here to see what is wrong. I hope we do not have to move the trailer, so they can dig, but if we must we must.
We plan on going to church Sunday, we do not know how many Sundays we will be off.

Tank eats this way can you?
