Well today Wilma & I did something new. You know all that trash You & I throw out the car window, well for seven hours we picked up LITTER. A lot of glass bottles & aluminum cans, the winner was Bud Light. We found some strange things, a nice band to keep your ears warm, do-rag, an air dam (for the front bumper), & a tail light ( not a lens, but the whole light).
We enjoyed the day it was nice no fresh snow (it has snow for six day straight). The low at nite has been in the 20's and it has been below 50 in the day. Our bird feeder is only getting ground squirrels, Tank has been keeping a close watch on it.
Laura Lee is coming Thursday and we have taken the day off. We were able to find an AG church here in Cedar City. We had broiled chicken, ranch style beans, carrots, & stuffing for supper. As you might know we have been eating well.

Well I did not write anything this AM, we got started early (8:30 ). Well we are retired. We went over to the maintenance shop & got the keys to a little Ram. It ran alright, if you were stopping and starting with a short time period in between it did not like it after a few times.
Wilma did great to day a little limp, but no pain (well maybe a little). We spent the day straightening signs, also we repaired some, put up some that had fallen down, checked the trash cans, we also moved more wood to the Visitor Center (there only heat is a wood stove). I may be sore tomorrow (I used a heavy bar to straightening them then we used a shovel to move dirt closer). Wilma also used the bar.
We saw three mule deer, twice (they were close to the road,) and they just kept eating. After watching a good movie we got to bed around 10:00. Tonight we will try to get to bed on time (around 9:00). I am getting to like this life style.

Yesterday; Wilma went to Salt Lake City to carry Stef & Parker to the airport, I helped around the monument. Tank & I missed her but she was back by 4:15 PM. When Wilma & I got back home Tank had supper ready it was chili with beef stew.
This morning it was really snowing 30 deg., now it is clear sun shinning and 42 deg. (it is 10:00). The Pine Bark Beetle has really made an impact, by killing many of the pine trees in this area, as in much of the timber country. I don't know what will happen if they do not find a way to control it. I do know, but do not want to think of that, how do you, say no forest as we know it.
I am going to put up our bird feeder, & then go to the maintenance building & try to get some materials to do some work in the CG ( screws, shovel, power screw driver). I would like to also do some work in our camp.
I worked from 10:00 till 4:00, Wilma worked in the evening, 12:45 till 4:00. We went and checked the trash cans, three needed to be picked up. We put together a bed, a girl from Germany is coming in soon. She is on a student program. There was three signs that needed to be put up which we did. Wilma & I also put the numbers back on one of the campground spots, (ours)
The weather was weird it snowed on us, it hailed (soft), it sleeted, and the sun also came out. A lot of the snow has melted, it has green grass under it.
The picture I posted does not come close to showing the damage done by that Pine Bark Beetle. I am setting here looking at wonderful mountain meadow with Pine trees behind it that have been killed by that Beetle.
We did get that bird feeder up, also moved the 4-wheeler's trailer, & put a gutter we bought from Home Depot in place. Still a lot to be done, the weather is going to warm up, and I should get more done around the campground.

Things at Cedar Breaks

Sorry I have not put anything on the Blog in a while. Where we are we have no TV, Phone, & no internet. I miss the net. I will only get to post about once a week.

Now how are thing going. In one word GREAT. We have had a low of 15%, most nite are in the low 20's. The days get up to 40% some time. It has snowed every day so far. I just checked the weather & the next 10 days look to be warmer.

The campground will open on the 16th. The Monument open today, but people come and go all the time, when the roads are not close for winter. When the snow gets high enough they open it to winter sports. It is used the year around.

We were able to spend Thur. & Sat. at Laura & Kelly's, Stef & Parker were there also. Today Wilma took Stef & Parker to Salt Lake City to get a plane. I stayed at Cedar & worked, yes I said work. Another vol. & I brought in fire wood, picked up signs, turned over tables, & cleaned glue off of a sales case. They are great to work for.

Wilma is doing very well she has a small limp, but not all the time. She does better in the AM, as she gets tired in the PM. (Hay I do to, don't you,)

Cedar Breaks

We made Cedar Breaks today (5-21-08) around 1:00. The pull to get here was an 8% grade, that is quite a pull, we are at 9,500 ft. or 10,000 ft. We found the people in charge and they were helpful in helping us park & showing us around. We will have our first potluck dinner Friday at Paul's home in Cedar City.
We have is really bad ; it is snowing, we are on top of a mountain, we are the only ones in the campground, just finish some hot chocolate, & the temp is 32 outside & 75 inside. We could have six inches or six feet of snow in the morning.

We made it

Amarillo

We made Amarillo around 6:00 Sunday nite. The Wedding went great, Bride & Groom are now in San Diego CA., both leave one for Japan & the other one for The USS Reagan, Monday.

The people that are serving in our Arm Services, allways have my thanks & gratitude, if they were not willing to serve and maybe pay the ultimate price, we would not have our freedom. THANK YOU

I will try to post some pictures Monday. Batt. Low

The last of our Arizona trip

Sorry I am late in posting the rest of our AZ trip. My brother and his wife had to leave early & Wilma & I made this without them. I wish they could have stayed & made it with us.

We went from Congress AZ to Prescott AZ which was a great road. BUT THEN we came upon a sign that said nothing over 50 ft., I told Wilma that is OK we are about 49. So up we went. You know it was Laddie's fault we went over that road, he would of said "Lets thank about this".

It was a beautiful drive. I am glad we did it, but never again pulling a trailer. Once we got to Cottonwood AZ the road was great through the Verde Valley. We did stay in Cottonwood, & went to church on Sunday, they were having a special sevice, Herithage Day.

You will find some pictures of the trip taken from the truck. Let me tell you Jerome was a tourist town. The street was narrow & turns tight, note the road sign. I did get one curb, no harm, only to my pride.

The road from Congress - Prescott - Jerome - Cottonwood - Camp Verde

This was a great drive

We saw a lot of rocks just from the road

This is rocks from the road

We went through Jerone AZ not again with a trailer

This is not a time to drive on the shoulder

Note the cows on the hildside & they are watering

Wilma update # 4

Wilma is walking much better, most of the time she does not have to use the cane. Wilma gets tired & does have to rest a few times each day, I always have to do that.

We are leaving Thursday AM to go to the Wedding of April & Charlie in Dallas, & then to UT.

Margo is coming over this AM to help get the house ready. Margo & Laura, Wilma's Sisters have been a great help.

We want to thank you for all the prayers, please don't stop. We give God the credit for everything.
